Effect on Emotions
- I've been able to control my emotions instead of being controlled by them.
- There were certainly those days when the tears were rolling and the anger was on a hundred and I could have made some bad decisions. But I remember specifically saying, ‘no, that's not me, those are my emotions and I don't have to own them.'
Thoughts on Breathing
- Breathing is absolutely part of my mindfulness. At night when grief was thick, it was hard to fall asleep and I learned this technique of inhaling on one, exhaling on two, counting to ten and then starting back on one.
- That really helped me to fall asleep. It also helps my son. Sometimes our minds are just busy and it's not always busy with grief, but that is where I learned that technique.

413 Perfect Pain Disclosed by Author Parham Parastaran
Wednesday Mar 27, 2019
Wednesday Mar 27, 2019
Parham Parastaran is an Iranian-American entrepreneur and author with a passion for discussing mental health issues in the business community. After fleeing Iran as a child during the midst of the Iranian revolution, Parham became the epitome of the American Dream. He built the multi-million-dollar business Car-X Tire & Auto, a franchise of tire and auto repair shops that quickly grew from a single store in Champaign, Illinois to 16 locations. Although he enjoyed success as an entrepreneur, he had a secret: He suffered from severe depression and addiction. A rock-bottom moment led to him signing himself up for psychoanalysis, which started a journey that opened up the darkest doors within himself and found him revisiting a childhood of trauma. Over 15 years after that first psychoanalysis session, he chronicles his powerful story in the new memoir, Perfect Pain.

Effect on Emotions
- I think mindfulness keeps my emotions at a steadier rate. My psychiatrist would call it self-regulation of my self-esteem. I think it keeps my emotions on more of an even keel.
Thoughts on Breathing
- I do actually practice breathing. It's another way that I try to think of it in terms of finding the present and it humbles me. The reason it humbles me, it reminds me that I am a human in a living body and I can feel my organs. It humbles me and reduces me to something smaller. That always is a healthy exercise for me.

Effect on Emotions
- Mindfulness allows you to control your emotions Like, imagine that. Oh my god, I don't have to be on a roller coaster anymore. That's amazing. I control how I perceive things. I don't have to have anxiety anymore, I control that.
Thoughts on Breathing
- That's a good one. Breathing is something that I need to be better at quite honestly. It's something that I'm consciously getting better at. I practice hot yoga and that's a great place for me to remember to breathe.
- I also am a big proponent of what I call 'power mottos'. Some mottos that give you power in a moment, especially when you're feeling weak or powerless. I combine those with deep breaths. Fifteen or twenty seconds of doing that and you're going to feel like a new human. It is such a powerful tool.

Effect on Emotions
- Mindfulness has allowed me to be the emotional human that I am. I tended to suppress that a lot growing up. Mindfulness allows me to have this confidence and comfort knowing that my emotions are valid and that they're directing me in the right way always.
Thoughts on Breathing
- Whenever I do a breathing meditation, I'm constantly just trying to stay grounded and to stay in this place. So when I'm breathing, it's just a reminder of being really alive.
- I talk about being an advocate for really living, so when you are breathing, you're living. That's something I'm great at. In moments when I don't feel like I'm good at anything and I'm having a breakdown, I remember that I'm great at breathing. That helps me.

410 Master of Mindfulness; Daniel Gutierrez
Sunday Mar 17, 2019
Sunday Mar 17, 2019
Daniel Gutierrez is a consultant, author, and motivational speaker. He was once a high-powered executive who graced the covers of Latin Business, Cypen and Color Magazines, but then Daniel realized that there was more to success than a 7-figure earning potential. Daniel mastered his outer game, but his intuition told him that to feel fulfilled, he must also master his inner game. Because of this, at the height of his career, Daniel left it all behind and dedicated the next chapter of his life to becoming a Master of Mindfulness. During the past 10 years, Daniel has led nearly 30 quests to the heights of the Machu Picchu, the depths of the Amazon and the top of the Himalayas. Now, Daniel has been featured in the documentary Luminous World Views as one of eighteen world-renowned thought leaders and has even appeared as a special guest at Carnegie Hall.

Effect on Emotions
- Regarding emotions, mindfulness has been a great staple for me because it allows me, like right now, I'm bringing myself back into the present moment. It's okay to feel that, I would say okay to go there, not okay to stay.
Thoughts on Breathing
- Breathing is important for me because I think it's important when you're in relation with other humans that before you act, you breathe just, that's it.
- Just breathe and what it does, it takes the charge out of the situation that you're in. It gets you to clear a little bit, to think better. So breathing has definitely been a way for me to manage my life and relationships in a lot better way.

Effect on Emotions
- Mindfulness helps me a ton with my emotions. The one thing you understand about emotions is that it passes. When you're mindful of it, you don't necessarily have to act on that emotion. You can just kind of be like, okay, there's that thing that I'm feeling. Let's breathe through it and it will pass. Then I'll see if I still want to act on it from a place of clarity and presence.
Thoughts on Breathing
- Breathing is constant. It totally changes my perspective. I breathe all the time. I don't know if you noticed when you ask me a question, I'll take a deep breath. It really helps with centering my thoughts and just kind of keeping everything grounded.

Effect on Emotions
- Mindfulness has made me less irritable and less reactive. Definitely that wasn't the case previously. Throughout much of my twenties, I was the type of person who would respond with an involuntary reaction rather than with voluntary reason. That manifested itself in relationships with girlfriends and family. I would be more inclined to snap rather than to have a conversation.
- Nowadays, mindfulness is like a muscle, the more you train it the more it becomes second nature. Now if something negative happens, I take it as an opportunity to get better. I will say, great, this happened, let's respond in a positive way and let's find a solution. That's been huge for me because it's so easy to go through life in a reactive state.
Thoughts on Breathing
- Oh yes, breathing. Yesterday I was hosting a podcast, and even though I am 311 episodes in, I always get a little bit of anxiety before a podcast episode. So before this particular episode, I went for a twenty minute walk and then I just sat in a quiet meeting room at our office and I just breathed for five minutes, deep breathing, focusing on the breath. That just brought me right back down.

Wednesday Feb 27, 2019
Mark Gober is an author whose worldview was turned upside down in late 2016 when he was exposed to world-changing science. Mark is a senior member of Sherpa Technology Group, a firm that advises businesses on mergers & acquisitions and strategy. He previously worked as an investment banking analyst in New York. Mark has been quoted for his opinions on business and technology matters in Bloomberg Businessweek and elsewhere, and he has authored internationally published business articles. - Dr. David Hawkins www.spiritualteachers.org/david-hawkins
Effect on Emotions
- I probably am a bit more easy going than I used to be, because I view now this life has just being almost like a temporary stop of consciousness.
- So if that's true, I think I still take things seriously, but there is this fall back of understanding. There's a much bigger picture going on beyond whatever small problems I have on a daily basis.
- So I think it's really helped me rethink things that might have stressed me out or caused anxiety.
Thoughts on Breathing
- I'm much more open now to the effects of breathing, especially after seeing things like holotropic breath work, which is basically a way of inducing a psychedelic state. I haven't experienced it, but it's often talked about.
- Also, the Wim Hoff method (www.WimHofMethod.com), that's something where, I think, everyone who does it experiences an altered state of consciousness by over-oxygenating the brain, effectively.
- You breath heavily in and then you let the breath go, so you end up netting in more oxygen than you're letting out. And when you do that for a long time and then hold your breath, like he suggests, it's almost like a state of euphoria just from breathing.
