Most Influential Person
- One of my friends I met in Hawaii who always had this peaceful calmness about her.
Effect on Emotions
- Mindfulness has helped me tremendously. I don't take things as personally and I certainly don't get caught up in them because I just remember that time passes and things change and I just have to be present with what is and I'll get through to the other side.
Thoughts on Breathing
- Breathing is a huge part of my mindfulness practice. I am always breathing. Breath has helped me through the most intense panic attacks and periods in my life. Even before this show I took some time to just breathe and settle into the space.

Bullying Story
- I always had a bit of a mindfulness practice in me. When I was in Middle School, I can remember being in situations that were hard or painful, and understanding that this is only a moment in time and that sometime I am going to be on the other side, so I can focus on, this is ending as it's happening.
- I feel like I took that with me through a lot of my life.
- So when it came to people who were cruel or unkind or teased or spread rumors, it's not that it didn't affect me, it certainly did, I was much younger and much less emotionally intelligent.
- I just had this knowing that this is not all there is. This moment, these people, this school, this neighborhood. I just was always aware this world is so big, even if I didn't quite know where I fit in it yet. I think that really helped me tremendously.
- I wish I would have had more mindfulness practices for sure around managing my emotions.

Calm Your Rage
Sunday Sep 05, 2021
Sunday Sep 05, 2021
Do you experience sudden outbursts of anger that happen when you least expect it? Have you noticed that you feel extremely angry towards certain people or certain types of people? Maybe there's someone in your life that gets under your skin and yet there doesn't seem to be any rational reason for it. That has been the case with me at various times in my life. I was a teacher for a long time and I would notice lots of different personality traits in my students. Sometimes fellow teachers would say things that would irritate me and I'd wonder why I'd feel so much irritation as a result of their comment.
The word rage never came to mind when I thought about my reaction to certain situations, but now that I've learned more about the conscious and subconscious mind and how our minds work, I realize that there was a level of rage that was gurgling and bubbling just below the surface.
Certain personalities or specific words or phrases would potentially case that gurgling rage to erupt. Sometimes the eruption was minor and no one else would even be aware of it. Occasionally I would do or say something that was out of place and I'd wonder why that happened.

What is trauma?
Now I realize that what triggered my rage was something related to an early trauma in my life. So when I say trauma, I want to be clear that an event that was traumatizing to me, may seem like a nothing event to you. I used to think that traumas were always events like a car accident, a house fire, sexual abuse, or a robbery.
A quick online search tells us that, “In general, trauma can be defined as a psychological, emotional response to an event or an experience that is deeply distressing.”
Another definition says that, “Trauma is the lasting emotional response that often results from living through a distressing event.” It goes on to say, “Experiencing a traumatic event can harm a person’s sense of safety, sense of self, and ability to regulate emotions and navigate relationships. Long after the traumatic event occurs, people with trauma can often feel shame, helplessness, powerlessness and intense fear.” You may have experienced trauma and don’t even know it.

Do You See Your Angry Self?
Trauma can take the form of abductions, terrible invasions of privacy, sexual abuse, violent attacks; all kinds of awful things happen to people in the world. Some of it is remembered and some isn't.
Generally speaking, our subconscious mind has the ability to remember and categorize vast amounts of information including incidents, words spoken to us, even smells, sounds, images, sensations, and emotions.
Only a minuscule amount of this information makes it to the conscious mind. So much of it we are not able to recall. It seems to be lost forever. Even though it seems to be lost, sometimes this information comes out in dreams and sometimes is triggered by certain random things that might surprise you. Maybe a brief musical phrase from a song, a certain aroma, or the face of an innocent stranger.
Some people who experience terrible traumas are unable to remember them at all, or maybe they just remember random bits and pieces. Traumatic events are usually not remembered sequentially, with a beginning, middle, and end. If anything is remembered, usually it's short, abbreviated chunks that can show up as memory flashes. Some people are bewildered at what these apparently isolated memories are all about.
A lot of people are confused when these memory flashes trigger anger and rage that they didn't even know was there, beneath the surface. All of a sudden you're exploding at someone, or you're ranting and raving about something. Maybe you hear yourself screaming and yelling at someone and it almost feels like you're witnessing another person doing the shouting. Somehow you know it's you, but you feel completely out of control.
A Recent Endorsement
One of my clients just finished her sessions and she sent me this endorsement telling you about her success with hypnosis:
“My name is Danielle Genenz. I’ve struggled with my inner bully, low self-esteem and lack of self worth for years. My relationships with family members have always been difficult and I’ve gone long periods of time without speaking with them.
Since I’ve had the honor to work with Bruce Langford on hypnotherapy, my life has changed for the better. I’ve been able to establish more boundaries in my relationships, which has allowed me to renew a connection I’ve not had in a long time with my family. I’m able to talk with them without constant confrontations and tensions and we are now able to communicate on a weekly basis.
I’ve also developed a sense of calmness that has been missing from my life. Now my battle with negative self talk has eased significantly and I feel more freedom to do things I enjoy without the constant burden of emotional stress. Hypnotherapy has also helped me to develop more interest in socialization and I’m better able to give more time to myself.
So once you are ready to do the work, I would really recommend this program to anybody who wants to improve their life and give themselves the gift of having more peace and confidence. Bruce has made all the difference in my life and I know he can for you as well.”
Danielle Genenz, Hypnosis Client
More Mainstream
An interesting thing about hypnosis is that instructions and suggestions can affect later behaviors of a subject. A friend of mine was hypnotized and it was suggested that he would want to drink glasses and glasses of ice water. As a result, he found himself craving ice water day after day; something that hadn’t been part of his life at all before he was hypnotized.
The fact that hypnosis can help you get to the root of your anger, your pain, and your rage, as I mentioned in the title of today’s episode, is what is making hypnosis more and more mainstream.
Lessen Anxiety
You may have heard of someone who successfully went to a hypnotist to quit smoking or to lose weight. The results are effective 95 to 98 per cent of the time and positive results are usually related to how much the subject wants to change and how trusting they are of the person doing the hypnosis.
I’ve seen this to be true. My most trusting clients, and my clients who have the greatest desire to change their behaviors, have been very successful.
If you are hoping to lessen your anxiety and stress, hypnosis is a great tool. If you would like to become more calm, more content in your life, and, as I say on Mindfulness Mode, reach new heights of calm, focus, and happiness, then hypnosis is an effective tool that is quicker than most methods and a lot more inexpensive too.
You Are Appreciated
I sincerely hope you’re not suffering through terrible rage and anger, but if you are, you can move forward toward a better life. A life where your anger is under control, a life where you are enjoying the results of your hard work and your accomplishments.
Thanks for listening to this episode about calming your rage. It’s great to sit here and share this with you, just as if you were here in the room sitting right here with me. Have a great rest of your day.

Bullying Story
- I was terribly bullied. It took me most of my 20's and early 30's to get over it.
- I grew up in an environment where my dad wasn't very well. He had narcissistic personality disorder. As a result of that, I didn't always have a role model to learn socialization from and to learn how to interact with other kids.
- Because of that I tended to get bullied. Kids picked on me and hit me and I didn't know how to respond. I had to learn to stand up for myself.
- I always remember how me and my brother did this. We found this thing called Thai Boxing. It's full contact. We took my mom to meet the Thai instructors. The guy completely charmed my mom and so we were allowed to go to full contact Thai Boxing.
- I learned to stand up by learning to defend myself physically. But it took a long time for the wounds to be repaired.

Use Movement To Let Go
Sunday Aug 29, 2021
Sunday Aug 29, 2021
After coaching many clients, it is obvious that the most difficult challenge for most people is not developing certain skills, or becoming more focused, it is the skill of letting go. Many of the people I work with come to realize that what's holding them back is an inner bully, or a mindset that is making it impossible for them to move forward. In many cases, this mindset served them in a positive way at one point in the their life, but as time went by, that same mindset no longer serves them.
That inner bully originally protected them in a way that was critically important at the time. In other words, they may not have survived through their challenge back then if it hadn't been for this particular thought process.
Years later, it became obvious that this inner dialogue was no longer helping them to move forward in life. Once my client came to this realization, then the burning question became obvious. “Now that I know my problem, how do I move forward? How do I let go of that particular way of thinking?”
If you're a regular listener of Mindfulness Mode, you'll know that I refer to this negative thought pattern as your inner bully. But how do you let this thought pattern go?

Do Both Minds Agree?
If you're like me, you might have difficulty letting go of books that are accumulating on your shelves, clothes you haven't worn lately, or even tools that you no longer use. Letting go of thoughts that are holding you back can be difficult in a similar way.
First, you have to have a clear understanding of the mindset that is holding you back. Once you gain that understanding, you have to make sure your desire to let go is genuine. Does you conscious mind and your subconscious mind both agree that this mindset is no longer serving you?
Listen to the episode for more details on how to use movement to let go.

Bullying Story
- When you publish a book you'll get either trolls or just people who don't like your book. It can be very disconcerting and frustrating. Sometimes they write things and you think they are writing a review of a different book.
- I had this happen recently with a book and I really think it was a competitor trying to sabotage the book. Had this person been much more mindful, they would have thought, this doesn't serve anyone reading this review. It's not going to make up their mind to buy the book or not buy the book. It just is nasty.
- I think if a lot of people were more mindful, they wouldn't think so much about competition, but they'd come from more of an abundant mindset.

- Breathing is something that I need to work upon. I feel as though that's one of the reasons why I enjoy exercise so much, because exercise is forced breathing.

Bullying Story
- I grew up in a small town called Stafford. That small town was a predominantly white area and in that time kids could be mean. I suffered from racism and racial attacks and getting into lots of fights and getting jumped on by mobster kids.
- I also grew up with a bad temper so mindfulness could really have helped me to, in those moments, if I had known to come back to the present moment, then I could have probably stopped myself from getting into certain situations and difficulties. I would have been able to understand myself and understand other people more.

Effect on Emotions
- My connection with my emotions is my not feeling badly about loving and being so sensitive. I've always been quite sensitive and really thanks to the tools of ‘Access Consciousness‘, also acknowledging and recognizing that I can tap into what people are going through and my heart is my guide.
Thoughts on Breathing
- We have so many things that we can use to judge ourselves. Like, do you deserve air? But you breathe it.
- So I invite people to recognize that you don't have to feel like you deserve something in order to have it. You don't have to possess air, like breathe it in and hold it there forever. It's a continuity of flow.
- If you sometimes are willing to breathe in the magic, and breathe out any of your doubts about you. Breathe in the possibilities, and breathe out any of your blocks. And breathe in the gems and the jewels that being on this planet and alive in this time are, and breathe out anywhere you feel like you're getting it wrong.

Bullying Story
- I have experienced bullying. I've probably experienced some of the things that we even call sexual abuse. However, I didn't recognize it as that. It's like converting the negative into the positive.
- I was very clear about what I desired to get out of the situation and it was always me. If I am able to connect with me and to not diminish myself, then that will be a contribution to the world.
- Even in the first grade I was bullied by these two girls. They would make me walk them home. I didn't really know that my house was so much closer.
- I was bullied in my first year of high school. I went to the oldest public high school in the U.S., Boston Latin School. I was bullied by these girls. They would bump into me and push me and I wasn't willing to be diminished. I tried so hard to pretend I didn't notice it. I tried so hard to be really kind to them. But I wasn't willing to be part of their crowd either.

Effect on Emotions
- It's that moment of pause that you give yourself. It frees you from an impulsive, excessive, automated reaction to someone or something that has triggered you and your response is coming from a place of potentially a hurt ego or something programmed from another period of your life.
- Being able to be free from that is the mindfulness piece for me. It's the relativizing that moment of equanimity. It's the ‘this too shall pass' moment of impermanence that you fold into that.
- Really, the whole part about this over attachment to desire and pushing away of a version of something, if you're able to take pause and allow yourself to bring a little bit of wisdom and not such an instantaneous judgment to what you're experiencing, sometimes what you're experiencing will either pass or you'll gain an extra bit of information that you need for your emotional system to either have already moved on to something else.
- So there's this fluid moment of dancing there, where, it's almost like the minute something hits you that makes you freak out. It's like that one deep breath gives you that moment to just dance with it and let go of the emotional response, let go of the knee-jerk way of reacting. As we all know, this is an every moment practice.
Thoughts on Breathing
- Breathing is the area where I have the most growth to come. I've often felt that my emotional reaction to things can be associated with how my breathing goes. If I'm going through a stressful moment, I can get caught into breathing where my voice literally changes.
- At times I can have an emotional reaction. It can be related to stress. Through learning to breathe better, and I still have practice to do there, I'm learning to be in a constant state of equanimity in terms of breathing. I'm not allowing myself to not be aware that my breathing is becoming irregular. I'm more attentive to that.
- I'm checking in and noticing when my voice is not where I feel it is.

Bullying Story
- About three years ago I went back to the town where I grew up, around Los Angeles. I met with a man that became a teacher at the school I went to when I was a little boy. We're looking through photo albums, and he had all these stories that I couldn't remember anything about.
- He remembered everyone's names, and he said, don't you remember John (not his real name), the bully at the school. You and he were best friends.
- I sincerely couldn't really connect with that memory and still can't. All I remember is that I was a very small kid. I was under five feet tall until I was 18.
- Consequently, the only way I could protect myself, was to befriend the biggest, strongest people in the school. In so doing, I was protected. I was very athletic and very fast, and the bigger kids didn't like that. I didn't remember the particular kid at all.
