How Do You Feel Empowered As A Coach?
- I feel so empowered because I work with a lot of women that are powerful. They're doing jobs in the workplace; I worked with a woman who is a pharmaceutical representative. She makes a lot of money and is very sure of herself. I work with people to build their businesses. I do a lot of different things, because I've come more into my own.
- We really effect change in other people when we change ourselves. It's that connection we have with people. In the last year I've gotten more into working with mindset.
Words of Wisdom
- Just, be still, because when we resist, it persists. Just be still in the place you're at and remember that it may not be time for you to get clear. When we start tapping into our intuition and listening and looking for signs; people, books, little things that come into our experience. It's good to start grabbing those and saying yes to those. Those are the things that lead us forward.
- The other thing I want you to remember is that you are the miracle. I learned this from Joe. [Joe Vitale] This shifted my entire reality when I interviewed him three years ago. We are looking for miracles. We're looking for all this help outside of ourselves. We are a miracle. We are being breathed. We don't beat our heart. We don't breathe our lungs. We are being breathed. We are already the miracle.

Fierce and Fervent Gratitude
Sunday Oct 10, 2021
Sunday Oct 10, 2021
Fervent is defined as having or showing great warmth or intensity of spirit and feeling. Having enthusiasm is also part of being fervent. The word is also defined as hot; burning; glowing. The word fierce means to me that there is passionate intensity behind the item you're referring to. Today I feel furiously eager and intense about the level of gratitude I feel for my life. I'm grateful to you, Mindful Tribe, for being a faithful listener. I'm grateful for my family and friends. I'm grateful for nature and for the fact that I have a healthy body and can run every day in nature.
Today is Thanksgiving Sunday here in Canada, and that's the reason I'm talking about gratitude today. It's important to have gratitude every day, but today is a great reminder of the many ways I am grateful about the life I have.

Effect on Emotions
- Being aware is everything. Connecting with: what am I feeling, what's going on now, what are my thoughts, what's the pattern here, and what do I want it to be. How can I change it? Just allowing for that first instead of sweeping it under the rug. Then we have the power to shift it.
Thoughts on Breathing
- This is an area where I know I haven't even scratched the surface of. There's such a wide range of pranayama and other techniques.
- I love to cycle, to be on my bike in nature, and walking will do this too. I find with cycling and dancing I notice I'm very expansive with it and easy with my breathing. That's also when I feel really connected with nature and just being in my body and who I am.
Suggested Resources
- Book: I would say, study the book of yourself. Study your behaviors and then notice your emotions and what's going on vibrationally. Then notice what the thought patterns and beliefs are, because so often it's below the surface.
- App: I would say, get out in nature.
Bullying Story
- When I was in elementary school, we were in the playground and there was a kid who was a troublemaker. He threw a rock at me. The teacher's reaction was actually stronger than mine. In that moment, I could tell that he really didn't intend to hurt me.
- It was an expression or trauma or hurt that he was going through. I just knew that it was him acting out whatever hurts he was going through.

Hello Ego, Enough Already
Sunday Oct 03, 2021
Sunday Oct 03, 2021
The ego is front row, centre for most of us when it comes to our core beliefs, our decision-making, our opinions, and our controlling paradigms. Essentially, the ego is busy protecting our inner child. That inner child is who we identify as “I”. I feel this or that; I believe, I am suffering, I have anxiety, I have internal challenges, I have urges I need to satisfy. You’ve heard me talk about our Inner Bully here on the show, and that inner bully is what holds us back, what causes us to make poor choices at times, that voice that tells us we’re not good enough in whatever way, whether it’s I’m not smart enough, I’m not wealthy enough, I’m not fast enough.
Our ego is that part of us that controls your value of self. It continues a running narrative based on our beliefs and thoughts about ourselves. These believes come from lived experiences from various places including parents, relatives, friends, teachers, and society.
The ego has a lot of power over us and it gets this power by interpreting our belief system and uncovering our deepest fears and sometimes our strongest confidence and courage.
Listen & Subscribe on:
iTunes / Stitcher / Podbean / Overcast / Spotify
Protection From What?
As I said, the ego is protecting us from our inner child, and it never stops. It’s extremely alert and is always ready to defend itself and act on anything it sees as a threat. Anytime there are threats to the ego, the ego steps up and makes an effort to redirect us.
What happens that might be a threat to our ego? For a lot of us the answer can be one or more items on this list:
- showing a strong display of emotions
- making confident decisions
- jumping into extreme competition whatever that looks like for you
- feeling fear and moving forward anyway
- being a strong leader
Are You On Autopilot?
Your ego makes everything about you and what you believe. Anything going against those beliefs is seen by the ego as a threat. The ego’s goal is to diminish your worth and power. By doing that, it believes your inner child will remain safe.
Remember, the ego is something we all have as humans, and it is a necessary part of who we are. Having said that, it’s important to understand a little about how the ego works and how we can keep it in check.
As the title says, sometimes we have to tell our ego, “Enough Already”. You can work with the ego so you can improve your life. When we’re on autopilot, our ego takes control and does exactly what it wants to do. When we become aware of the ego, it will become less powerful over our thinking and our decisions.
What To Do
Here’s what to do to tell our ego, Enough Already:
- Become aware of your ego and realize you are not your ego. You and your ego are separate
- Have a friendly conversation with your ego. Finish this sentence … I am (blank). Notice what words come up for you after those two words, I am. Write down the words that came up for you following I am. Don’t judge what you wrote, just look at them with as little emotion as possible. If you do this various times throughout the day, you’ll start to identify the contents of your emotions and what’s holding you back. You’ll also start to identify your strengths.
- Give your ego a name. Giving it a name will help you have power over it and a better understanding of how it tries to control you.

How Music Saved My Life; Riopy
Wednesday Sep 29, 2021
Wednesday Sep 29, 2021
Riopy has established a worldwide reputation with his emotionally honest and vivid instrumental music, which has generated over 200 million streams globally. Riopy discovered the piano and taught himself how to play music, with this activity literally saving his life. He credits music for helping him overcome the horror of his childhood, anxiety, stress, depression, and drug/alcohol addiction. Riopy released his new album, ‘Bliss' earlier this year through Warner Classics. He’s done extensive research on the positive effects music has on mental health, even taking EKGs of his own brain waves to test the various effects of music. Riopy has devoted his life to achieving complete “lucidity” in composing and performing, using such techniques as transcendental meditation, yoga, maintaining a sober lifestyle, and even fasting for up to 48 hours, all of which provide a clean slate which has enabled his creativity.

Effect on Emotions
- Mindfulness is everything. Everything; it's day and night.
- I am a thousand percent more aware of my emotions. Now I know what to do. I know it's all in the mind.
- It's not external.I just have to rewire the mind and now I know how to do this.
Thoughts on Breathing
- Breathing is everything. It's just so good. I love it. Breathing really gets your body ready and then you go into meditation.
- Sometimes just going straight into meditation is impossible, so I so lots of different breathing [exercises]. One of them is the Wim Hof method.

Turn Your Failures Into Wins
Sunday Sep 26, 2021
Sunday Sep 26, 2021
Today I’m talking about dealing with your failures and how you can turn them into wins. The episode is about how you view your accomplishments and how do you define failure. The fact is, you can change your thoughts in such a way that you’ll feel better about yourself, feel more confident and become more productive. All this will help you become the person you want to be. Today’s episode is called “Turn Your Failures Into Wins”. The steps you’re taking to become more mindful, including listening to this podcast, will help you gradually learn how to make the changes you need to make so you can deal with your inner bully.
Your Inner bully is a pattern of thoughts that can feel like an enemy has set out to sabotage your life. Some people feel like these thoughts are beyond control. Have you had thoughts that tell you you’re not successful enough, or not smart enough? Maybe you’ve had thoughts that tell you you’re a loser or a failure?

One of my clients just finished her coaching sessions and she sent me this endorsement telling you about her success with hypnosis:
“My name is Danielle Genenz. I’ve struggled with my inner bully, low self-esteem and lack of self worth for years. My relationships with family members have always been difficult and I’ve gone long periods of time without speaking with them. Since I’ve had the honor to work with Bruce Langford on hypnotherapy, my life has changed for the better. I’ve been able to establish more boundaries in my relationships, which has allowed me to renew a connection I’ve not had in a long time with my family. I’m able to talk with them without constant confrontations and tensions and we are now able to communicate on a weekly basis. I’ve also developed a sense of calmness that has been missing from my life. Now my battle with negative self talk has eased significantly and I feel more freedom to do things I enjoy without the constant burden of emotional stress. Hypnotherapy has also helped me to develop more interest in socialization and I’m better able to give more time to myself. So once you are ready to do the work, I would really recommend this program to anybody who wants to improve their life and give themselves the gift of having more peace and confidence. Bruce has made all the difference in my life and I know he can for you as well.”

Effect on Emotions
- I think that has given me more perspective and acceptance. I think rather than getting lost in it and making decisions from where I am, it's honouring exactly where I am.
- Feeling the feelings and being really connected and tuned in to them, and also trusting all paths and knowing clarity is always on the other side.
- It has given me perspective and presence in a way that I've been able to move through a little bit more sustainably.
Thoughts on Breathing
- It's part of my meditation practice and part of Kundalini.
- I also always am inspired to connect to breath work with my partner who is always taking a deep breath and letting it out and that is how to reconnect to the moment.

Bullying Story
- It can be pretty vulnerable to put yourself out there in the world we live in right now. So much of my work is putting myself out there all the time.
- Mindfulness has been a really necessary tool because I haven't faced so much of this; crazy messages and such. A lot of people around me are receiving this all the time so I think that it's been a real lesson in just having perspective and not getting lost and taking it all personally.
- I can just step back and see it for what it is. My biggest lesson is putting myself out there but being grounded enough in myself that I'm able to handle things as they come and see them for what they are.

Is The 4-Day Workweek Feasible?
- Some countries are shifting to the 4-day workweek. The four day work week is a step that we're seeing, that for society is actually happening.
- We see countries like New Zealand, Spain, and in Iceland a study just came out where 2500 people did a four day workweek. Kickstarter is switching over to it. Even small community colleges like Kalamazoo Valley Community College in Michigan switched over to it five years ago and they are saving millions of dollars on air conditioning costs in the summer.
- So we see that there are all these business applications for the 4-day work week.
Iceland Study Details
- It was a multi-year study of 2,500 people in tons of different industries. It wasn't just automotive workers or teachers, it was across the board in a number of different sub-sections of society. They found that productivity was up in four days. They found that creativity and happiness was up. An unexpected outcome was that their health outcomes were better. They were less stressed and less anxious.

Life Challenges
- In 2012 it all hit the fan at once. My daughter had heart surgery and as soon as the doctors said she was good and healthy, two weeks later I was diagnosed with cancer. My best friend's wife had breast cancer, my grandma died, it was just one of those terrible years. We all have one at some point unfortunately.
- I was working at a community college at the time, full time. I had my side counseling practice and had just started a podcast, The Practice of the Practice podcast. So I had all these things going on, and this little baby girl who'd just had heart surgery.
- I started to think about my forty-hour a week job. Really, it wasn't one of those jobs that I hated. I had autonomy, I had influence, my boss was amazing, so it was even harder, because it paid well and I had a great job. I could have stayed there for my whole career.
- But the central question I asked myself was, ‘would I rather stay and never know what I have inside of me, or would I rather leave and potentially fail. And to me that was such a central question. I decided I'd rather leave and potentially fail and if I failed I could always come back to the counseling world.
- So I left my full-time job and started Practice of the Practice podcast. Over the years I found that I was saying the same thing over and over. It was around time and the best use of my time.
- At a certain point you need to stop taking out the trash. To have someone else do that so you can focus on those higher level things in your business and in your life.

Effect on Emotions
- Using mindfulness to handle my emotions has been a key skill to learn and to fine-tune and to grow and build that muscle.
- In all areas, whether in business, or getting a coffee at the local Starbucks when they get your name wrong and make you wait twenty minutes or whatever it is, these are all opportunities for our emotions and our thoughts to get the better of us.
- Mindfulness allows me to have a non-personal approach in all these situations which allows for much less stress and much more calm and peace.
Thoughts on Breathing
- I learned to breathe by playing the Japanese flute. What I didn't know was that there's a profound ability to improve your piano playing through proper breathing.
- You wouldn't think so because you're not generating the sound with your breath like a wind instrument, but it turns out, if you breathe properly, it comes through the music.

Bullying Story
- I grew up in a neighborhood of Brooklyn that was a little rough and I did get bullied by locals. They stole my bike one time but no physical harm was done.
- As a kid, mindfulness is a great tool because ultimately it's about how we interpret those moments. Mindfulness is a powerful tool that allows a child who has the skill, to frame the experience in a way that they understand that it's not about them.
- For the one doing the bullying, we know that bullying is done as a result of a deep insecurity.

2 Words To Redirect Your Life
Sunday Sep 12, 2021
Sunday Sep 12, 2021
If there were 2 words that could shift the direction of your life, immediately aiming your own personal GPS exactly where you wanted, what do you think they’d be? Speaking of the direction of our lives, it’s easy for our GPS to develop a short circuit. That happens when we don’t program it right, or when the circuitry becomes scrambled. Our GPS is programmed by a number of factors; by what our conscious mind puts into it, what our subconscious mind puts into it, and what all the noise from the
Our conscious mind protects us against perceived danger, and our past experiences all play a role in creating our personal story about what is dangerous to us. Trouble is, many of those personal stories are buried in our subconscious mind and we aren’t aware of how all that information is influencing our actions.

Veering Off Course?
Have you stopped to examine what you really want your life to look like? No, I mean really stopped, taken a pause from your activities, from your busyness, from your day-to-day life to allow yourself to go deep into that place where you allow every fiber of your being to relax into what you absolutely want for yourself.
Maybe when you start to get to the place, you’ll realize you’re living your life according to somebody else’s recipe. Someone in your life now or in your past impacted your thinking. Maybe even without knowing it, they said something, or did something that sent your inner GPS veering off course, attempting to take you someplace you don’t even want to go to.

Where Is My Place?
So have you decided what those two words are that can help you change everything? Your anxiety will begin to melt. You will become focused, you will feel a certain calmness that you’ve been longing for.
The reason you’ve veered off course has to do with your self-value. Somewhere along the line you started to question your own personal value. You started to wonder why you’re here and you struggled with the question of ‘how do I fit in’. Where is my place here in the universe?
How to Get On The Right Track
Does this resonate with you? Are you burying your insecurities? There are lots of ways to bury what’s bothering us. Some of us use alcohol or marijuana, some use food, some of us are workaholics. What’s your method of burying your pain? How do you get through the challenges that are slapping you in the face?
So many of you have reached out to me and I’ve now had the honor of working with a lot of you, Mindful Tribe. You know who you are. I know who you are. You are special to me, and I know that you know exactly what I’m talking about today.
These two words are words I’ve talked about in the past. They will help you get on the right track.
Listen Up
To hear the two words I'm talking about, listen to this episode. Once you know the two words, you'll discover they will lead you to the process of letting go. Letting go is something we’ve talked a lot about on Mindfulness Mode. Doing the exercise I talk about on the episode will help you let go. It will teach you something about yourself and where you really want to be in this world. It will help reveal where you want to be headed.
Two simple words that can help you get back on course. Those words can help you redirect your life so you’re headed in the direction that’s right for you.
If you’re like me, sometimes you think things have to be complicated to have value. That is definitely not true. Some of the most valuable lessons in life are the simplest.
