Effect On Emotions
- Mindfulness is a crucial part of my Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) recovery. BPD brings intense, overwhelming emotions that can blind me from reality.
- With mindfulness, I've learned to recognize when I'm triggered and remove myself from situations. I let myself sit with my emotions without trying to change everything. It's a big step towards healing.
- Sometimes, it only takes about 30 minutes for emotions to pass. However, there have been times when I spent hours alone in my room, aware that leaving could hurt others emotionally. Being self-aware of my behavior and patterns is vital for my progress.
Thoughts On Breathing
- Breathing is a powerful tool for managing intense emotions.
- When I get triggered, my body goes into a fight-or-flight response. My heart races, palms get sweaty, and my breathing speeds up.
- By regulating my breath, I can calm my nervous system and bring myself down from that emotional high.
- I find it crucial to control my reactions. I often use an Apple watch with a breathing app to help with this practice.
Bullying Story
- Treyvon shared his experiences with bullying, mainly coming from within his own family. School wasn't the source of his bullying, but rather, it was his mom and oldest sister who were the major culprits.
- Treyvon believes that if both he and his family had been more mindful, things might have been different.
- Looking back, he acknowledges that as a kid, he couldn't control what was happening at home, but he could have managed his reactions better. As a child, he thought that forcefully expressing his emotions was the right way to deal with it, but now he understands the importance of mindfulness, acknowledging his feelings, and allowing himself to experience them.
